COURSE STRUCTURE

You have to complete 3 core units (25 credits) and specialist units (95 credits) to obtain the Level 7 Extended Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership.

ASSESSMENT

Each unit is assessed on the basis of you satisfying designed learning outcomes. Your coursework/assignment is assessed by your module facilitator and then checked by an independent External verifier appointed by Pearson to grant the qualification.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Admission into this course for applications not meeting the minimum requirements may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the college.

This qualification is available to anyone aged 19 and above and who is capable of reaching the required standards. Students need to demonstrate their ability through qualifications and/or experience which may be one of the following:

  • Recognised Bachelor’s degree in Management or any other discipline or
  • Level 5 diploma qualification with minimum 3 years of supervisory level
  • Minimum 5 years work experience with no formal qualification
  • Minimum English Proficiency: IELTS 5.5 / Band 5.5 or its equivalent

MODULE SYNOPSIS

1. Developing Strategic Management and Leadership Skills
This module is designed to give students an understanding of the links between strategic management, leadership and organisational direction, and the skills to be able to apply this understanding to investigate how current thinking on leadership influences an organisation’s planning to meet current and future leadership requirements in the real world.
2. Professional Development for Strategic Managers
This module provides the methods and techniques to assess the development of individual skills to take responsibility for learning.  Gaining the personal and professional skills to support the strategic direction of an organisation, learners achieve this through analysing their current skills by preparing and implementing a personal development plan.
3. Strategic Change Management
This module provides methods and techniques applied through analysing and implementing to strategic change management.
4. Strategic Marketing Management
This module provides the learner with the understanding and skills to support active engagement in the process of strategic marketing management.
5. Strategic Human Resource Management
This module provides the learner with an understanding of how the effective strategic management of human resources supports the achievement of organisational purposes and provides the skills to apply this understanding in an organisational context.
6. Strategic Quality and Systems Management
This module provides the learner with an understanding of the importance of effective quality and systems management to enable achievement of organisational objectives. It also provides the learner with the skills to be able to implement a strategic quality change in an organisation.
7. Strategic Planning
This module provides the learner with an understanding of how to review current organisational management strategies and the skills to develop a strategy plan in an organisational context.
8. Managing Financial Principles and Techniques
This module provides the learner with the skills to apply financial principles relevant to strategic management in an organisational context, including forecasting, capital appraisal, budgeting, financial appraisal and analysis.
9. Research Methods for Strategic Managers
Learners may have developed a range of investigative skills throughout their programme of study, but this module focuses on formal research methods leading to the production of a ‘thesis style’ report. It is important that learners understand the elements that make up formal research, including the different methodologies, how to select a research question, action planning, carrying out the research (in this case a literature review), being able to be critical and evaluating the relevance and importance of material, and ways to record and present their findings. Tutors will need to cover the theory that underpins formal research to enable learners to complete this unit successfully
10. Project Development and Implementation for Strategic Managers
This module provides learners with an opportunity to develop their project management and research skills by developing a project where they plan and implement a new product, service or process.
